Mark's job at PAWS is to manage the Seattle Goose Program. Before this job he volunteered to help clean the dog kennels. He went to college at Seattle University where he majored in journalism.
The Seattle Goose Program helps solve conflicts between Canada geese and people who visit city parks. The geese love our parks because of all the green grass, which is one of their favorite foods. But geese can make a mess - a single goose can poop two pounds a day! Because of the mess left on beaches and sports fields, geese used to be rounded up and killed. But now with the help of PAWS, the Humane Society of the United States, and the city of Seattle, we have found a new way to solve the problem without killing geese! Mark was very important in bringing all these groups together to create a successful program for everyone.
Mark believes it is important to speak on behalf of animals who need help. He says, "Last October I saw a beautiful gaggle (or group) of geese overhead - they were flying south for the winter. I like to think those geese were some of the animals our program saved!"
