Girl Scout Troop #675 Main Content
What do you do when the rules create a challenge, but you still want to fulfill your dream? Brownie Troop #675 discovered that if there is a will there is a way. Their dream idea was to help PAWS in some way. However, these 23 girls were not yet old enough to Volunteer with the animals and a Girl Scout policy that you can't raise funds for other organizations ruled out collecting money.
Instead they used their creativity to come up with a new idea: They chose to have a movie night at the Hazelwood Elementary School gym. With the support of the principal, 60 kids and their families, they hosted a fun evening featuring the movie Lady and the Tramp.
They advertised their event around school and handed out copies of PAWS' wish list. Instead of charging admission they accepted donations at the door. Kids brought their sleeping bags and stuffed animals. There was a Lady and the Tramp picture-coloring area and refreshment stand. Before the movie the PAWS Humane Education Coordinator gave a presentation about how the event would help animals.
Brownie Troup #675 managed to collect over 280 cans of pet food, 32 bags of food and many more toys, treats and collars - that's more than $600 worth of supplies! Their fun event helped educate people about animals in their community and the items collected will help many homeless dogs and cats, and injured or Orphaned wild animals at PAWS.
