About Wild Animals

Wild animals are also sometimes called wildlife. Wild animals live in habitats or natural areas all around us. They do not require the same care from humans as pets or companion animals do to stay happy and healthy.

Wild animals need:

  • Streams, ponds, rivers or other clean water sources
  • Access to natural wild foods such as Native plants, insects, rodents and other animals
  • Shelter, such as live trees, dead hollow trees, logs, rocks, bushes, burrows, lakes or ocean
  • Safe ways to get across or around roads and buildings
  • Other animals of their own kind
  • To be left in the wild

Check out the rest of the Wildlife section to learn more about these special animals.
